After a grueling six days of preliminary round actions, the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championship are now on the knockout stage of the tournament and it’s expected to be filled with a lot of thrills and drama.
From the 24 Teams that qualified in this year’s World Championship, only 16 teams advanced in the next round bannered by undefeated teams USA, Lithuania, and host country, Turkey.
Serbia, who recently made noise in the basketball world because of the infamous brawl with Greece, will kick off the round-of-16 when they go up against Croatia, to be followed by a clash of two of the favorites prior to the tournament, Spain and Greece.
On Sunday, Slovenia, which finished second to USA in Group B, will strut their stuff against the Andrew Bogut – less Australian squad, while the host team led by NBA players Hedo Turkoglu and Ersan Ilyasova will go up against France, which also had NBA players of their own in Nicolas Batum and Boris Diaw.
The star-studded USA Team will see action on Monday and they are expected to easily dispatch African Champions Angola, which finished fourth in Group A. Also on that same day, Group C second-placer will take on New Zealand.
On the final day of round-of-16 action, Lithuania will put their unblemished record on the line against the unpredictable Chinese Squad, while Argentina will try to dispatch Brazil.
Germany, Jordan, Iran, Tunisia, Canada, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, Cote d’Ivoire failed to advance in the knockout phase after finishing 5th and 6th in their respective groups.
