We welcome a trio of debutantes to our super starting five this week!
Georgia Jones (Leicester Riders)
No stranger to our line-up during the first WBBL season in 2014-15, Jones makes her first appearance this time around with a typically classy and assured effort for Riders in their road win at Manchester Mystics. The Great Britain guard claimed 16 points and a wonderful eight assists to take her team to victory – as well as grabbing five precious rebounds.
Chloe Bully (Team Northumbria)
The latest player from Team Northumbria to find a starting five space, Bully’s debut showcases the depth available to the unbeaten North-East club. The Belgian guard was instrumental in the triumph at Cardiff Met Archers after an outstanding shooting effort. She harvested 23 points from a brilliant 9 of 12 from the floor – including five big triples. She also had three steals and two assists.
Alex Smith (Leicester Riders)
Another player making a first appearance after a stellar shooting contribution from downtown is Riders’ guard Smith. She caught fire from behind the three-point line and nailed a spectacular seven triples to take down Mystics and help her team rack up a first success of the new season. She was also just one rebound short of a fabulous double-double and handed out three assists.
Beatriz Royo Torres (Sevenoaks Suns)
The Spanish ace hangs on to her starting five spot after posting another influential display to continue what has been a flawless start to the season for Suns. However Sevenoaks had to work hard to get past local rival Brixton Topcats and into the Quarter-Finals of the WBBL Trophy, with Royo Torres amassing an all-action and impressive 17 points, nine boards, four assists and two steals.
Fiona O’Dwyer (Team Northumbria)
A standout WBBL performer with Team Northumbria last year, O’Dwyer is making a big impression once again after sealing a second starting place in three weeks. She produced the best performance of the weekend as she cut down Archers with a majestic 18 points from a brilliant 78% shooting. She also wrapped up a double-double with 11 rebounds, as well as adding six assists and five steals.
Off the bench – Diana Voynova (Team Northumbria), Chantelle Pressley (Sevenoaks Suns), Jenaya Wade-Fray (Brixton Topcats), Amy Browne (Manchester Mystics), Judit Fritz (Cardiff Met Archers), Zita Martonosi (Team Northumbria), Vanessa Da Silva (Brixton Topcats)
