Cardiff Met Archers have made a statement of intent by adding the quality of Great Britain guard Eilidh Simpson to their roster for the forthcoming 2017-18 WBBL season.
The GB athlete has spent the last two campaigns playing in the highly-rated Spanish Leagues at CD Zamarat and Sant Adria, having previously starred for St Francis College, Brooklyn in the NCAA.
Her College career was an outstanding one, since she poured in over 1000 points, captained the team for three years, led St Francis to their first ever Championship and won a number of individual accolades – including the school’s Female Athlete of the Year and being named an All-Conference Player.
Simpson also represented Great Britain at EuroBasket Women 2015 in Hungary and can’t wait to hit the floor in Wales.
She said: “I think I’ll really fit into the Archers programme and I’m really looking forward to getting started and it sounds like we are going to have a strong team.
“The WBBL has some great players and I think it will be a very competitive season, so I am counting down the days until I get the jersey on.
“Cardiff really excites me and I’ve heard great things from people that have lived here. I also love hiking and the Welsh coastline sounds great too,” smiled Simpson.
Her arrival also means that there will be an all-Great Britain backcourt, with Simpson linking up with her national team colleague and Archers’ player-coach Stef Collins.
“We are thrilled to have Eilidh join our Archers programme,” said the play-caller.
“Enriching our roster with a GB international will be a significant boost to our competitiveness in the league.
“On a personal level, I have known Eilidh for a few years now and feel her character and hard-working nature will be a positive influence for our group of returners – something which I have no doubt will spark a refreshing mindset and eagerness amongst our veterans and youth players.”
