Australia coach Brett Brown released the final cast of the Australian Boomers for the 2012 London Olympics.
Patrick Mills, who played for the San Antonio Spurs in the recent NBA Playoffs, headlines the Boomers roster that also includes David Andersen, who played also played for the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Hornets in the NBA.
Matt Dellavedova, who had an outstanding performance with the Boomers during last year’s FIBA Oceania Championship, was also included in the squad.
The 21-year-old point guard also had a decent season with St. Mary’s, earning him his Olympic debut, along with Aleks Maric, Aron Baynes, Peter Crawford, and Adam Gibson.
Andrew Bogut, who has the face of the Boomers in the past international competitions, will not be playing in London due to several injuries that also caused him to miss majority of their games last NBA season.
But despite missing Bogut, Brown remains upbeat about their chances, especially with the development of Mills that he witnessed during their stint with the Spurs in which Brown is an assistant coach.
“While we will definitely miss Bogut, it is pleasing to see Patty’s development and it is great to see him doing well for the Australian team as we run a similar system to his NBA team which should make him more comfortable with us at the Olympic,” Brown said.
Australia was drawn in Group B and will be competing against host Great Britain, Spain, Brazil, China, another qualifier from the 2012 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
