BA London Lions have confirmed the return of five players from last season’s WBBL core to open their signings for the 2017-18 season.
Guards and academy players Charlotte Ellmore – who had an impressive campaign with the GB Under-18 Women this summer, Teresa Da Silva and Zoe Willis will help lead the squad from the backcourt, whilst bigs Megan Sheret and Christina Gaskin will load up the front court.
“Ellmore and Da Silva are the best two guards of their generations and I’m confident that they will demonstrate this in the WBBL this year,” play-caller Mark Clark commented.
“With Zoe Willis returning for her third season, I am excited to see what she will bring with the extra experience. She was hampered by injury last season, but has the ability to make a good contribution in the WBBL this year.”
Sheret, also an academy player, returns for her third year at BA, but it will be her first full season with the WBBL squad.
“I am really excited to play in the WBBL this season,” Sheret said.
“I’ve had a taste of the league in my first 2 years at Barking and after a lot of hard work I am now looking forward to get a full season under my belt.”
Clark added: “Her addition this year underlines the development she has made in the last two years at BA.”
Finally, Gaskin, a BA alumnus who graduated in 2011 before having a four year career at Fordham, returns for another year with the WBBL side and Clark expects her to take on a leadership role.
“Christina has underlined her level by her call up to the GB senior women, “ he declared.
“I am expecting her to be a leader in the WBBL Campaign. At the offensive ends Christina still brings that explosiveness and ability to get to the basket and at the defensive end still has the ability to rebound and block shots as well as anyone the league.”
