Dirk Nowitzki Headlines Germany’s Final Roster for EuroBasket

Germany coach Dirk Bauermann made his final cut for their squad that will compete in this year’s EuroBasket that is set to kick off on Wednesday in Lithuania.

NBA superstar Dirk Nowitzki, who led the Dallas Mavericks to an NBA title last season, will banner the 12-man squad along with Los Angeles Clippers big man Chris Kaman, who has also confirmed his availability for national duties.

Per Gunther and Konrad Wysocki were the final cut and coach Bauermann said that it was a tough choice but he decided to mainly because of the superior depth on their positions.

Wysocki was part of the 2008 Olympic squad but was not also selected in previous tournaments.

Gunther, on the other hand, was part of the German squad in last year’s World Basketball Championship but Bauermann opted to utilize Steffen Hamann and Heiko Schaffartzik on the point guard position.

With Nowitzki and Kaman suiting up along with tested veterans in their fold, Germany is tipped as one of the teams to watch out for in this year’s EuroBasket.

The German squad was drawn in Group B where they will face Serbia, Italy, France, Latvia, and Israel on the preliminary round of the tournament.

They will kick of their campaign against Israel on Wednesday followed by their game against Italy and France on the next two days. They will take a break on August 3 before taking on Serbia and Latvia, respectively.
