Standard Life GB Senior Women Team pulled off a gallant stand before eventually bowing out against Netherlands, 78-76, in pulsating match Saturday evening.
GB started the game on a high note, outscoring the Dutch team, 36-30, but their efforts were not enough to prevent their team from losing their second-straight game against Netherlands. The Dutch National Team took advantage of the lackluster performance by the Brits in the third period, outscoring them by six points, 24-18, and they never looked back to bag the victory.
Despite the loss, GB did a lot of good things that they can be proud of.
Julie Page erupted for 27 points and added eight rebounds, while Natalie Stafford and Steff Collins finished with 15 points apiece. Sarah McKay also had a good job as she finished the game with eight boards.
Head Coach Tom Maher has nothing but praises for how the team played against a tough opponent.
“It was a very pleasing effort even though we lost” Maher said.
“The standard of the game was infinitely better than the previous night and we had every chance to win the game. If we can maintain that type of defensive effort we’ll be in good shape.” he added.
Tom Maher and his squad will take a rest before flying to Tel Aviv to face Israel in a three-game series as part of their preparation for the European Championship.
