The Standard Life GB Senior Men Team put up a gallant stand before bowing out to Canadian Development Men’s National Team, 82-78, Wednesday in London.
Great Britain, which played without their established NBA players Luol Deng, Ben Gordon, and Pops Mensa-Bonsu, erupted in the opening period to build a 26-12 advantage.
However, the resilient Canadian squad found their rhythm in the next three quarters to outscore the Brits and erased the lead, which was as high as 18 in the second period. The visiting team shot 50% from the three-point region in the second half and limited GB to 31% clip.
The young Canadians out-hustled Great Britain on the rebounding department, 49-33, which was one of the reasons why the visiting team was able to pull off a big run from the second quarter.
Casey Archibald, who came off the bench, led the Canadian Developmental Team with his 18 points, five steals, and was 6-of-8 from the field.
Jevohn Shepherd and Kyle Landry tallied 16 points apiece, while Ryan Wright added 11 points for Canada.
Despite the heartbreaking defeat, GB Coach Chris Finch was able to measure the strength of his team and he was able to utilize all his players in the game.
Matthew Bryan-Ammaning had an outstanding game for the host team, scoring 17 points, while Dan Clark contributed 12 points. Team captain Andrew Sullivan scored nine points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists, and added two steals.
