After sweeping their two-game friendlies last week, the Great Britain Standard Life Men are ready to make noise once again when they compete in the six-team Olympic Test Event starting today in Stratford.
After defeating Netherlands and Nigeria last week, Great Britain will be facing five of the best teams in the world – France, Croatia, Serbia, China, and Australia – and GB coach Chris Finch is thrilled with the opportunity to test their mettle against the five formidable teams.
“The team is settled and ready to get started with this world class event,” Finch said. “The first 10 days of camp got us off to a great start. Five games in six days will be a challenge, but I think we are ready.”
Great Britain will open the tournament against France, who is expected to parade their NBA players like Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, Joakim Noah, and Nicolas Batum.
“France has an outstanding team,” Finch said on France, who are preparing for the upcoming EuroBasket Men 2011 in Lithuania. “They are very motivated to be a part of London 2012 – the player commitment makes this perfectly clear. So, this test event is important to them leading up to Lithuania.”
GB will then collide with Croatia on Wednesday, Serbia on Thursday before taking a break on Friday. They will be back on the court on Saturday when they face Asian powerhouse China and Australia on Sunday.
Great Britain superstar Luol Deng is expected to suit up for the team in the six-day tournament.
