After a morale-boosting win against Belgium, the Great Britain National Basketball Team suffered a heartbreaking loss against the host Israel, 86-82, in their second game in Tel Aviv.
Sacramento Kings rising star Omri Casspi, who averaged 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds on his NBA rookie year last season, was simply too much for the Brits as the 22-year old Israeli tallied a game-high 27 points.
Guy Pnini added ten points, while Lior Eliyahu added ten points and dished out nine assists for the host team, Israel.
Great Britain and Israel went toe-to-toe but Casspi’s dominating performance handed Great Britain its first defeat in their final preparation for EuroBasket 2011 Qualifier.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu provided a big lift for GB as he finished the game with 25 points and a whopping 15 rebounds, while Ogo Adegboye added 19 points. Dan Clark also had a good game, contributing 18 points for the Brits.
Great Britain started the game on a low note and Israel quickly took advantage to build a 24-17 lead at the end of the first period. The Brits recovered in the second and third period and actually grabbed a 54-51 lead but Casspi took charge to shut the door for their opponent.
GB Head Coach Chris Finch and the rest of the GB Squad will end their final preparation for the EuroBasket Qualifier against Netherlands.
