Lithuania Clobbers Lebanon 84-66

Lithuania swept their five preliminary round games in Group D after they clobbered Lebanon, 84-66, in the final day of preliminary round action of the 2010 FIBA World Basketball Championship.

Martynas Gecevicius led the Lithuanian’s surge by tallying 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists, while Renaldas Seibutus chipped in 17 points for Lithuania, which pulled off two-straight thrilling win prior to this game against Spain and France.

Tomas Delininkaitis had 11 points and four boards, while NBA player Linas Kleiza continued to display his impressive form when he added 10 points and five rebounds, in just 16 minutes of action.

Lithuania had a slow start and Lebanon took advantage to finish the first period with a 16-16 standoff. The Lebanese squad continued to stand toe-to-toe with the much-favored team in the second quarter.

Lithuania unleashed a 9-2 run before the second period ended, which gave them a seven-point cushion, 39-32, before the halftime break.

Lebanon’s defense gave the Lithuanian’s a lot to think of in the third period and the less-favored team continued to stay close with the European powerhouse. However, Lithuania scored nine straight points before the end of the third period to grab a 64-51 lead.

They never looked back and were able to absorb the last ditch effort of the Lebanese Team to secure the top spot in Group D.

Rony Fahed scored 19 points and dished out four assists, while naturalized center Jackson Vroman had 15 points and four rebounds for Lebanon, which ended the tournament with just a win.

Lithuania will go up against China, which finished fourth in Group C, in the round-of-16 of the biggest basketball event this year.
