The London Leopards punctuated their dominance this season by winning their third trophy via 95-82 win over the Derby Trailblazers in the EBL Division One Men final.
Vernon Teel had an outstanding night as he recorded another triple-double with 32 points to go with 16 rebounds and 12 assists, while Ousman Krubally had 34 points and 17 rebounds for the Leopards.
David Buchberger also had a share of the spotlight as he finished with 17 points and nine rebounds for the Leopards, who pulled away in the third period of the game.
The game was a see-saw battle in the first half, which ended with the Leopards just up by five points. However, the Leopards got into their groove in the third period, outscoring the Trailblazers, 25-15, to build a 15-point advantage heading into the final period.
Derby threatened to make a comeback in the final period, but the Leopards was simply too much and too confident in the final.
“If winning the league was big, than winning the play-offs was very big,” said Leopards and Coach of the Year Dejan Mihevc. “It is something special and it means a lot to me. When we entered the play-offs, our only goal was to win the last game of the season and we did it. Our guys did tremendous job and in final we played one of our best games.”
Rishi Kakad had 29 points, while Martyn Gayle added 22, but it was not enough to lift the Trailblazers over the heavily-favored Leopards.
