Pops Mensa-Bonsu fulfilled his promise to bring firepower to the Great Britain National Basketball Team when he led his team to an 84-80 victory against Belgium in Tel Aviv, Italy.
The former NBA player erupted for 26 points giving Great Britain its first victory of the summer. Mensa-Bonsu, who played for the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, and the Dallas Mavericks, previously expressed his excitement over his stint with the National Team.
Despite a bad performance in the first half, GB Head Coach Chris Finch was pleased with his team’s performance.
“It’s a decent start to the tournament, Belgium are a good team and have had some good results in their previous games.” Finch said.
“We had some good performances from the younger players such as Dan Clark, Ogo Adegboye and Eric Boateng and I’m looking for us to continue that against Israel tomorrow. They will give us a really good challenge, and that’s what we need at this stage of the summer.” he added.
Ogo Adegboye also had a good night scoring 20 points, while Dan Clark added ten points for Great Britain.
