Montenegro Names 16-Man Preliminary Roster

Montenegro new head coach Dejan Radonjic released their 16-man preliminary squad which will undergo rigorous preparation for the upcoming EuroBasket Men 2011 on August in Lithuania.

Radonjic, who was promoted as head coach after former coach Dusko Vujosevic stepped down, released a squad that will be bannered by American-born naturalized player Omar Cook, Minnesota Timberwolves Nikola Pekovic, and a promising prospect, Nikola Vucevic.

The New York-native Cook recently played for Power Electronics Valencia, leading the Spanish Club to a third-place finish in the ACB regular season and helped the squad advance for the first time to the EuroLeague Men’s quarterfinals.

Vucevic, on the other hand, also earned a slot in the squad after an impressive three-year stint in University of South California, a performance that made the NBA squad Philadelphia 76ers select him as their first round pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

Vlado Scepanovic, a 35-year-old veteran who was a member of the Yugoslavian squad that ruled the 1998 World Basketball Championship, also got the nod to train and compete for a spot in Montenegro EuroBasket 2011 team.

Montenegro was drawn in Group C where they will collide with Croatia, Greece, FYR of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and a soon-to-be-determined qualifier.
