The WBBL’s newest entrants Durham Palatinates have turned to the familiar face of Noelia Quintas to help guide them through the challenging waters of a first season in the top flight.
The Spanish veteran will be an anchor for the north-east franchise in their rookie Women’s British Basketball League campaign and Head Coach, Lee Davie is thrilled to have her on board.
He enthused: “As we embark on our first season in the WBBL having veteran leadership from somebody that has both played professionally in Europe and is no stranger to British Basketball, will be huge for our programme.
“Noelia was one of our very first women’s basketball student athletes here at Durham and we’re all very excited to have her back in our programme for this coming season.
“She brings a lot of basketball knowledge and a number of skills that will allow us to use her in a variety of ways over the course of the season.”
Meanwhile the player is delighted to be completing something of a circle at an exciting and historic time for the organisation, having also played in the WBBL last year at derby rivals, Team Northumbria where she averaged almost 10 points and 5 rebounds per game.
She commented: “Durham being my first club after leaving home, will always be a special team to play for. I already have lots of good memories in Durham and I hope to make some more.
“Being near the end of my basketball career, I wanted to play for an ambitious programme that aimed at winning as many competitions as possible. Durham has one of the best basketball programmes in the country, so it makes sense to join a winning team.
“I am hoping to fit in well with the group both on and off the court, and to help in every aspect of the game I can. I will contribute whatever Coach Davie requires and to bring some experience to the court. “
Further player announcements will be made in coming days.
