Leicester Riders have signed British guard Rema Lascelles to the BBL roster following an extended time with the team in pre-season this year.
Lascelles joins Riders following four seasons at Hawaii University and then small stints at Derby Trailblazers and SV Hagen-Haspe in Germany’s Regionalliga.
“It feels great to sign with the Riders,” said the player.
“It has been a goal of mine to play in the BBL and to be doing so with a great team so close to home, it could not have worked out better.”
Lascelles is with the Riders in the Czech Republic as they take on BK Decin in a double header this week.
“I am feeling good going into our trip,” he contined.
“We have had a good few weeks of practice and have performed well in the opening games so it will be good to see how we match up against Decin overseas.”
The Derby native joined pre-season last month and impressed throughout the opening two games with the club. Head Coach Rob Paternostro was pleased to see Lascelles confirmed for the upcoming campaign, following the positive start with the club so far.
He said: “I’ve watched Rema play for a long time and have always enjoyed the way he plays. At 6ft 6in, he is a big guard with good length, who has excellent vision and court awareness.
“We have really liked the way he has played so far and believe that he is a guy who can be a valuable addition to our roster this season. It’s always exciting to work with young British talent, and Rema is a player who we believe will develop throughout the season.”
