Caledonia Pride and basketballscotland are delighted to announce the signing of Scottish guard Hilary Wood as Scotland’s first ever women’s professional side edge closer to making their WBBL debut.
Wood, who most recently played for the University of Edinburgh brings a perfect combination of youth and experience to the side having represented Great Britain at the U20 European Championships in 2013.
Wood is excited to see the WBBL make it’s debut in Scotland and can’t wait to be a part of history when the season starts this October.
She commented, “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to be a part of this.
“After playing GB U20s in 2013, and playing at a high level in England and Canada since, I can’t wait for the level of WBBL to be played in Scotland. It’s very exciting for women’s basketball North of the border.
“I look forward to working hard and I just can’t wait for the season to begin now.”
Head coach, Bart Sengers is delighted to have Wood on board and added, “Having worked with Hilary last season I am excited to have her on the team.
“She has a great work ethic and while she is still not 100% fit, she is already showing improvements from her last season. She is an excellent shooter and passer while also being able to handle the ball.
“I have a good idea of what part of her game we want to develop and she is already used to working with me. She will fit our style of play and is a great team-mate,2 concluded the play-caller.
Caledonia Pride will make their league debut away from home when they travel to face an experienced Leicester Riders side on 08 October. Fans will get the chance to see Caledonia Pride play their first home fixture on 23 October at Oriam when the team welcome Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters to Scotland.
