Oaklands Wolves have added Spanish veteran forward Esther Pajuelo Vazquez to the roster for the upcoming WBBL season.
The 5ft 11in Toledo native arrives to the Hertfordshire programme after spending the majority of her career in LF2 in her homeland. Vazquez has enjoyed spells at Estudiantes, Real Canoe, Pozuelo and Alcobendas.
Last season she played with Parque Sureste whilst completing her teaching qualification. A qualified coach, Vasquez will be studying English at Oaklands College and coaching in the Wolves junior basketball club alongside playing in the WBBL.
“As soon as I heard about Esther I wanted to add her to the programme,” said head coach, Lee Ryan.
“I have long admired the senior players around the WBBL and the positive impact they have on teams – I believe Esther can do this for our players and programme.
“A very intelligent basketball player, Esther can score all over the court and is able to play multiple positions. She will give us great flexibility in the roster.”
Vazquez becomes the latest addition to a roster transformation from last year’s debutantes and the player is looking forward to getting started.
“I have heard great things about the WBBL and the Oaklands programme,” explained the Spaniard.
“I am so thankful to the staff for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to start working with the team and helping the young players.
“I am sure we are going to have a great season, I look forward to starting and I’m very happy to be a Wolf!”
Oaklands Wolves will play a series of preparation games over the coming weeks ahead of the opening WBBL league game at home versus Cardiff Met Archers at 3.45pm on Saturday 30th September.
