Looking to start their preparation earlier than expected, the Turkish Basketball Federation released their final roster for the upcoming EuroBasket Men 2011 in Lithuania, where they will one of the favorites to win the tournament.
After an impressive stint in last year’s World Basketball Championship where they finished second to USA, the Turkish squad will look to bad the European title this time with their strong 14-man roster which will be bannered by NBA veteran Hedo Turkoglu.
Aside from Orlando Magic forward Turkoglu, NBA players Omer Asik of the Chicago Bulls, Ersan Ilyasova of the Milwaukee Bucks, Omer Asik of the Chicago Bulls, and 2011 third-overall pick Enes Kanter of the Utah Jazz, will also suit up for Turkey, who are looking to earn a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic by finishing on top or runner up in the European championship.
The Turkish squad will gather in Antalya on July 10 before flying to Italy on July 16 for a 15-day training camp. After that, the team will compete in the Efes Pilsen World Cup in Izmir on August 8, the Super Cup in Germany, before ending their preparation with a stint in the Adidas Cup in Istanbul.
Turkey will play in Group A along with defending European champion Spain, host Lithuania, Great Britain, Poland, and a soon-to-be-determined qualifier in the preliminary round of the tournament that will start on August 31 and will run up to September 18 in Lithuania.
