Giants edge overtime thriller as Lions lose…

Manchester Giants came out on top in an overtime thriller against Plymouth City Patriots in a night that saw Kofi Josephs go off for 46 points, whilst London Lions suffered their first loss of their FIBA Europe Cup Campaign.

After a dagger from Dan Clark in the final moments of the ballgame, the Giants came out on top over the Patriots whilst the Lions fell to medi Bayreuth to ensure they would finish second in Group A.

Looking for their first win of the season, the Patriots gave themselves a good footing after the first with some solid defence and led by Joseph’s 17 first half points raced out to an early 10-point lead.

Giants fought back in the second period and tied the game late in the quarter before Ayodeji Adekunle ensured Plymouth would go into the half with a slender advantage.

The second half followed in a similar suit as the Giants kept eating into the Patriots’ lead, however had no answer for the immense Josephs.

As the Plymouth Pavillions anticipated that first win of the season, with three seconds on the clock GB international Clark hit an incredible corner three pointer to tie the game in the dying embers.

A dagger from Jamell Anderson in overtime gave the Giants a four-point lead with 30 seconds to go in the ballgame, and they held on for a superb victory.

Josephs’ incredible tally of 46 led all scorers as Tyrik Armstrong led the Giants with 20 points and eight rebounds.

In the evening’s other action London Lions looked to make it a perfect 6-6 in Fiba Europe Cup Group A against medi Bayreuth, however fell up just short to round off what has been an incredible campaign so far.

Both teams flew out the gates offensively, but Bayreuth slammed the breaks on London as they held the Lions to only 13 points in the second quarter.

London continued to fight back and found their footing again in the third quarter, however ultimately succumbed to the German side as they now look forward to the next stages.

Dirk Williams led the Lions with an impressive 30 points whilst Isaiah Reese added 19 of his own to go with eight assists.
