London Lions blew Cheshire Phoenix away whilst B. Braun Sheffield Sharks edged out Manchester Giants in a nail-biting encounter. Newcastle Eagles also won against Surrey Scorchers in a bumper night of BBL action.
Lions got off to an electric start in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The side from the capital scored 28 points in the opening quarter whilst limiting Phoenix to 17 to open up a nine-point lead after the first quarter. Dirk Williams was in fine form as he started the game 5 for 5 from behind the three-point lead.
The home side added a further 25 in the second and 22 in the third to take the game away from Phoenix. Lions weren’t done there though. A massive final quarter saw them score 38 points and wrap a comprehensive 113-74 win.
Jordan Williams was the MVP for Lions as he finished with an impressive triple double of 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Dirk Williams put in game high performance of 22 points while Teddy Okereafor led the scoring for Phoenix with 14 points.
A superb Sheffield Sharks final quarter saw them go home with the victory against Manchester Giants. Giants had led for most of the game, leading 20-16 after the first quarter and 44-38 at half time they settled into the game much quicker than their opponents.
A 28 apiece third quarter gave Giants a six-point lead going into the last but a remarkable comeback from Sharks would see them go home with the points. Rodney Glasgow Jr’s buzzer beater got Sharks over the line in a classic game.
Jonathan Williams impressed for Sharks as he finished on a team-high 18 points. Jordan Ratinho and Kipper Nichols also had good games as they finished on 17 points each. Jamell Anderson scored a game high 25 points for Giants but it was not enough as his side slipped to defeat.
Newcastle Eagles secured a victory on Wednesday night as they beat Surrey Scorchers 90-81. The first quarter was a tight affair with Eagles winning the first 23-20. The home side were ale to open up some daylight between them and their opponents in the second, going into the break 51-38 ahead.
Surrey would go onto win the final two quarters 22-20 and 21-19 however it would not be enough to peg back the deficit as Newcastle wrapped up the win.
Corey Johnson put in an excellent performance of 27 points, five rebound and four assists for Eagles while Stanley Davis Jr scored a team high 26 points for Scorchers.
