London Lions narrowly lost to German side Rutronik Stars Keltern 68-61 in the FIBA EuroCup Women on Wednesday evening. Much like the last time the two sides met, it was a close affair right up to the final whistle.
Both sides got off to a slow start in the opening quarter with Keltern holding a narrow three-point lead of 12-9 after a low scoring first period.
Lions had a better second quarter as they eased into the game. They outscored their opponents 18-14 to go into the half time break ahead by one with the score at 27-26.
Lions would then go on to have another strong quarter after the break. The side from the capital found themselves ahead by three going into the last, leading Keltern 47-44.
Keltern, however, looked a different side in the fourth and deciding quarter as they started to pull away from their opponents. They outscored Lions by 10 points in the last, winning it 24-14 and going home with a 68-61 victory.
Kennedy Leonard led the scoring charts for Lions as she finished on 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists while Azania Stewart also impressed with a double-double performance of 10 points and 10 rebounds. For Keltern, Brittany Nichole Carter finished with a game-high 19 points.
