Leicester Riders will host Damligan side Norrköping Dolphins this weekend in a pair of pre-season games against their Swedish opponents.
The Dolphins travel to Leicester in a return trip, with Riders having visited Norrköping in 2015 when they also matched-up against another Damligan side in Alvik Basket.
Riders came out victorious from last year’s trip with some excellent preparation – helped by the very professional experience provided by Norrköping.
The two teams will take the court and continue the elite European basketball action at the Leicester Sports Arena, which saw the Riders men play in the R3 tournament last weekend.
The first game will be on Sunday 18 September (17.00) and the second clash is on Monday 19 September (19.30). The games are free to watch for children, with adults tickets priced at just £3 and Riders’ season tickets being valid for both games!
Riders’ head coach, Matthew Harber is looking forward to the match up and stated, “We’re really excited to play our first preparation games this weekend against Norrköping!
“The first games in pre-season are always exciting for the coaches, but even more so for the players as there are only so many things that team practice can give to a newly established team.
“You need game experience with different styles and situations to really understand what the team can do at both ends of the floor. We need to continue to establish a strong team unity and these two games will undoubtedly help us move forwards in that department.
“The Dolphins are really well coached and their young team progressed really well throughout the 2015-16 Damligan season under Coach Sundberg’s tutorage. They play really good basketball and I know we will face some difficulties across the two games.
“We’re also really happy that they accepted our invitation to travel to Leicester this year and we want to return the great experience that we had at their place last year,” concuded Harber.
His peer Jesper Sungberg is excited for the trip and looking forward to taking the court against Riders.
He said, “We are really excited about the invitation to Leicester. It will be a great experience for our team to come and play a good, disciplined team and at the same time visit our basketball friends.
“We look forward to playing the Riders who beat us twice last summer. It will be a good test for us heading in to the season.”
